Cherokee Maidens [2105] Artist Profile

Artist Bio

Rising up from deep musical roots in both the short and tall grass prairies of Oklahoma and Kansas, The Cherokee Maidens, along with their star-studded band, Sycamore Swing, pay homage to the past. Vintage clothes, songs and sounds fill the performance halls and remind audiences of another era. Think Bob Wills meets the Andrews Sisters. The Maidens pack a punch with a long resume of time-hewn experience. Robin Macy has traveled and sung along the I-35 corridor for decades. Together with Cimarron Valley Songbird, Monica Taylor and young Jennifer Melcher, these women create distinctive three-part harmonies with two acclaimed recordings under their rodeo belt buckles. One was a Dixie Chick. Two have performed on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion. All three share the same Native American heritage; therefore, they take their moniker from Cindy Walker's 1941 country hit. It is this collective of timbre and shared passion for the past that sets them apart from the pack and unites them as a tribe. Backed by a troupe of crackerjack musicians, led by Kentucky White, their guitar-slinger who produced both recordings, Sycamore Swing makes every attempt to keep the classic genre authentic - featuring some of the fabled Tulsa Playboys, Shelby Eicher and Steve Bagsby. Twin fiddles. Lap steel. Yodel in a modal key. All-American. Multi-generational. Time- traveled. [10/7/16]
